Prior to the conversation, Carlson questioned U.S. foreign policy in the Middle East, criticizing the unconditional relationship with Israel and arguing that this alignment has had negative consequences for both the region and the United States’ international credibility.
In his introduction, he also recounted his first visit to a Palestinian refugee complex in Doha (Qatar) and described how shocking the experience was for him and his team “as we left the compound we were three grown men staring at the ground to keep from crying.”
He emphasized that the media and political elite have minimized the humanitarian impact of the conflict, urging the audience to question the dominant narratives in the West.
For her part, Francesca Albanese explained the scope of her work as UN rapporteur, detailing the humanitarian situation in Gaza and other occupied Palestinian areas. She denounced a systematic pattern of violations of international humanitarian law and underscored the gravity of the ongoing destruction.
She also addressed the strong political and institutional resistance faced by critical reports on Israel, as well as the attempts to delegitimize those who document these facts.
In that context, she defended the use of the concept of genocide as a legal category based on patterns of conduct documented by the most prestigious international human rights organizations and not as a mere rhetorical device.
The interview made it clear that when crimes against humanity are confronted, political allegiance takes a back seat in those individuals who are guided by ethics and morality as guiding principles in their conduct and actions.
