The country’s very origins are rooted in an act of ethnic cleansing, involving systematic expulsions and massacres documented by contemporary Israeli historians such as Benny Morris and Ilan Pappé: more than 750,000 Palestinians were expelled, 531 villages were destroyed, and over 70 massacres resulted in the deaths of 15,000 civilians (Morris, 2004; Pappé, 2006).
Founded just 78 years ago on land belonging to others through this ethnic violence, and with a short history marked by repeated wars and total militarization, Israel embodies exactly what Carlson denounces.
